Navigating Deaf and Hearing Worlds
Difference in Teachers Treatment
Giving "better" or "easier" students
Paid Less than hearing teachers
Given the students that struggle with communication.
Because of different types of communication and a majority hearing world it is more difficult for a hearing person to comminate with a Deaf or deaf person as well as vise versa.
This creates a stereotypical image around Deaf people because hearing people think they can't communicate or are not smart enough to.
Hearing people jump to conclusions that are often wrong.
It is more difficult to get jobs.
Have to take a test for their teaching licence
that is designed for hearing people.
Deaf people know they are capable of doing things that hearing people believe they cannot. PEOPLE ARE EXTREMELY JUDGMENTAL ANE OFTEN WRONG ABOUT THEIR ASSUMPTIONS
Performance of a job or career
ASL is still even looked down upon today
Deaf people choose to show and believe in "resilience"
Which is a very strong word, it is basically finding silver linings
