Assessments

Interim/Benchmark
This is periodic testing throughout the school year. Usually every six weeks. There is little to no student feedback. Examples of this formative assessment include projects, written assignments, and tests.
Summative
Summative assessments are given to students at the end of a learning content. Some examples of summative assessments are standardized testing, final exams, cumulative projects, and research projects.
Performance
Performance assessments are when a student has to perform a task rather than selecting answers like what some other assessments require. Examples of Performance assessments include; individual or group projects, portfolios, student logs, and journals.
Formative
The process of gathering evidence of student learning. Providing feedback, and adjusting instruction strategies for student success. For example, discussions and quizzes are formative assessments.
Diagnostic
Diagnostic assessments are a form of pre-assessment that provides the teacher with information about the individual students strengths, weaknesses, knowledge, and skills before the instruction is given. Examples include pre-tests and teacher questioning.
