The integument system
Hair
- any of the fine threadlike strands growing from the skin of humans, mammals, and some other animals.
Skin
- the thin layer of tissue forming the natural outer covering of the body of a person or animal
Nails
- covering on the upper surface of the tip of the finger and toe in humans and other primates.
Glands
- an organ in the human or animal body which secretes particular chemical substances for use in the body or for discharge into the surroundings.
Nerves

Body Membranes
Cutaneous Membrane
- Membrane that covers the body surface, 15-16% body weight
Serous Membrane
- Membrane that lines body cavities and covers organ surface.
Layers of the skin
Dermis
- Inner layer and is much thicker, it contains blood vessels and nerve fibers.
Hypodermis
- Underlying layer or subcutaneous.

- Keratinized stratified squamous epithelium

Cancer
- When cells fail to follow normal controls of cell division and multiply excessively
Benign
- Does not spread and grows slowly
Matignant
- Grows relentlessly and may become kiners.

- Skin is red and with blisters

- High risk for fluid loss
1st Degree Burn
- Skin is red and swollen
