Born in America, with immigrant Parents

Her family practices the religious aspect of their culture

Learning about other cultures makes people more well-rounded and open minded

28 States

In the past, the country was ruled by the Muslim and and the British.

The Purna Swaraj declaration

(*) India is a very diverse country. Each state has their own culture and language

Bhavana's Parents were both born and raised in Tamil Nadu

Quote: "Most scholars, like Mithi Mukherjee in India under the Shadows of Empire, see the Purna Swaraj resolution as a critical component of the changing strategy of the independence movement in engaging with the British: the demand for freedom was now made in the language justice and not charity. The Purna Swaraj resolution was seen as a critical symbolic event by leaders of the freedom movement and Indians in general" ("Declaration of Purna Swaraj").

Bold= Thesis (*)= important information

Broadening my perspective by learning

(*) Cultures impact on community, religion, and food.

Initial Thesis: Culture has a big impact on people's perspective

Parental influences due to their cultural backgrounds

(*)America's culture encourages individualism, while India's culture forces community

High population means cramped cities and villages. Everyone seems to know everybody else in India

The concept of community is also a safety measure too. For example, you would not harm someone you knew.

America has a lot more space, people live in big houses, with big yards, it is common that people do not know the majority of their neighbors.

They made sure to teach her and her siblings the importance of family, their language (Hindi) and their cultures foods

Her story of how she overcame prejudice and learned to love, and embrace her culture

Summary: This is a copy of the Purna Swaraj Declaration, which goes over the rights of the people now that the country of India is no longer under the rule of the British.

Hinduism, pushes the concept of religious non profits. Doing Dharmam (charity). There are different types of charities (food money education) which one can do to help become a better person through living for others.

Karma is a big part of the religion as well

Eating- there are specific types of food you're allowed to eat. Eating out a lot alters the way you think. Preparing food is made to offer to God first to get that blessing.
