2 Types of Cabinet Committees
Standing : Permanent
Ad- Hoc : Temporary
Members are generally cabinet ministers but sometimes, other ministers are also added.
Organisational devise

reduce the workload of Cabinet
ministers. They deliberate on important questions of policy making and take decisions as well but, the final call lies with Cabinet.
Membership
If
PM is a member
of a committee, then he
becomes the de- facto head
of the committee. Also,
most of the committees are headed by PM as de- facto
. Sometimes,
Finance and Home ministers
also head a committee
Setup by PM
according to
exigencies of time
and their strength and purpose is variable.
Generally, strength varies from 3- 8 members

- Coordinates and directs government activity in economic sphere
. ( Headed by PM)
Cabinet Committee of Appointments -
decides all higher level appointments in Central Secretariat, Public Enterprise, Banks and FIs.
( Headed by PM)
Cabinet Committee of Political Affairs - deals with all policy matters pertaining to domestic and foreign policy.
(Headed by PM)
Cabinet Committee on Parliamentary Affairs -
looks after the progress of government business in parliament.
(Headed by Defence Minister)
Cabinet Committee on Security-
deals with the question of Internal Security and border preparedness
(Headed by PM)
Cabinet Committee on Accommodation -
looks after the provisions of accommodation of ministers and higher officials.
( Headed by Home Minister)

Cabinet Committee on Investment and Growth -
look after the policies in fiscal and monetary realm along with creation of jobs, infrastructure and stable FDI, etc
Cabinet Committee on Employment and Skill Development -
to formulate policies to increase the skill sets of labor force in the country and bridge the skill gap, oversee policy implementation, functioning of ITIs, etc
Group of Ministers and Empowered Group of Ministers
The 2nd ARC, 2005- 09, had suggested scrapping of multiple GOMs/EGOMs and suggested to setup limited number of these institutions for limited time and selective purpose.
They were made during UPA I and II to promote effective dekegation of labour but due to multiplicity of GOMs and EGOMs, the purpose was defeated.
NDA I scrapped all GOMs and EGOMs as a part of it's reform agenda but later revived many 'informal' GOMs
