I absolutely loved this book but at the same time I did not. I liked it because of all the action happening and it really grabbed my attention, for the most part. I also like how they showed the different point of views between Mariam and Laila in Part 3 and it made me feel a connection with Mariam and Laila through it. I loved how they developed Laila's independent and strong character in her scene. I was confused, though, when the transition from Mariam to Laila happened at Part 2. Though, I did not like this book because it was a lot of information to process between their personal lives and the war going on. I did not understand the war much because of things like the Taliban, I did not understand anything about them, or the names of different groups or people involved. The names were obviously not American names so that it a little difficult to follow who is who and who is doing what. Overall, the book was very great and sad and I was so drawn into it, it just had so much information to take in which made it a little difficult to remember when stuff happened or who was involved.
