Powers of President
Veto Power
Absolute Veto- Withhold the assent to the bill and life of the bill ends. Consequently, bill doesn't become an act. Eg: PEPSU Appropriation Bill, 1954
Pocket Veto- No action is taken on the bill as to giving assent or not. Eg- Indian Post Office (Ammendment) Bill, 1986
Suspensive Veto-Bill is sent back for reconsideration. If the bill is passed again with similar majority, with or without amendments, then president must give his assent
Ordinance making power (Article 123) : These are temporary laws, passed only during 'recess' of parliament, co- extensive with parliamentary legislation, not parallel to parliamentary legislation, must be passed by both the houses within 6 weeks of reassembly to become an act, maximum life in case of non- approval is 6 months 6 weeks

Discretionary Powers
When there is no clear majority after the Lok Sabha Elections, president shall exercise his discretion to appoint a PM.
When there is sudden death of incumbent PM in his office, then President may use his discretion to appoint a PM, provided that ruling party hasn't selected a new leader
When ruling party loses confidence in LS, president may use his discretion to call any other leader to form government
