Special Education Referral process
By: Ty'Nae Harrison
Teacher and or parent have concerns about student's progress and or behavior.
Have Parent conference
If needed have a conference with the SPED team so they are aware of the concern and possible testing that may be about to happen.
Loop in the RTI(response to intervention) team to see if this is going to be the first stop along the way. (unless Parent has requested that their scholar be tested; in this case the student has to be evaluated by law within 90 days)
has concerned been resolved?
yes
Student may be receiving extra support by either a team member of the RTI team or just some extra differentiation happening as an in class support.
No
Now a Student Success Team (SST) is formed ( gen ed teacher, sped. team and parent): We then discusses concerns about the student, and their data and the next steps that will be taken.
STUDENT IS EVALUATED FOR SPED SERVICES
RESULTS COME IN AND A MEETING IS HELD WITH THE SST TO GO OVER THE FINDINGS.
