Hiatus Hernia
Definition
A condition in which a portion of the stomach herniates through the oesophageal opening of the diaphragm that has become weak and/or enlarged, into the lower end of the thoracic cavity

Pathophysiology
In a hiatus hernia, part of the stomach herniates upward into the mediastinal cavity through a weakness in the diaphragm, caused by trauma or loss of muscle tone resulting to regurgitation of gastric contents
