The Shocking Truth of Nuclear Energy (Spoiler: It's actually pretty chill)
Waste Treatment of Nuclear Energy
-Those who oppose nuclear energy argue that it's practice leads to lots of unnecessary waste
-Nuclear waste is important because in today's day and age,
waste is an absolute no-go. Being that huge quantities of waste are produced from nuclear, this is an easy target for anti-nuclear advocates
-This issue is currently being looked in to - people have began recycling the waste, as well as finding better means of waste storage.
-Nuclear waste is just like any other waste (in that) people don't
like waste. Additionally, the waste can pollute ground water, which will effect humans.
History of Nuclear Practices wrt Energy
-Many valid arguments being made today are not catching the spotlight, while some arguments that have been previously refuted continue to hog the media's and public's attention.
-nuclear energy is clearly a topic of debate in the energy sector.
-unfortunate events in the past have lead many to oppose it's use
-It matters because we need energy. Fossil fuels are dirty and limited. Renewables
are great but not at the stage to take on the global energy needs.
Cost and Efficiency of Nuclear
-Those for nuclear argue that it is extremely efficient and not as harmful as what the media has made it to be.
Cost and efficiency is important because many argue that nuclear is very expensive
and therefore not a good option. Nuclear is very expensive; however, it is extremely cost-effective. Nuclear energy produces immense amounts of energy relative to sources such as wind or solar.
-Budgets (in terms of cost and energy-quotas) are limited, and therefore we need efficiency.
While nuclear has a large up-front cost, the plants hold extreme efficiency and impressive longevity, making them competitive candidates for upscale.
-Nuclear is extremely efficient, clean (relative to fossil fuels), and weather independent.
Fear of Proliferation and Catastrophe
-Opposers argue that nuclear causes high amounts of radiation.
They also argue that nuclear energy can easily be weaponized.
-Those who are pro- nuclear argue that it is extremely efficient and not as harmful as what the media has made it to be.
Many oppose nuclear because they believe nuclear can be weaponized. I believe this to be anti-nuclear propaganda. Nuclear energy and nuclear weapons have little similarity, besides the word nuclear. While they are not mutually exclusive,
the use of nuclear energy in no means gives way to nuclear weapons.
-Unfortunate events in the past have lead many to oppose it's use, such as Chernobyl and Japan
-This should matter because those who are misinformed need to
know that nuclear energy will not lead to nuclear weapons; you don't really need to worry about nuclear proliferation because that is BS
