8th Grade ELA
-
12 students who have some knowledge about the topic as shown in their score, but need to develop higher order thinking skills
Students will practice reading comprehension through sequencing and answering questions based on the reading. Students will spent 1/2 their time with one activity, then transition to the next.
Formative Assessment: Students will fill out reading response cards, answering a question of their choice based on the task cards.
For students who have mastered, they will move on to creating their own task card questions. They will then use these questions to quiz each other and use mini whiteboards to record their answers. **Students also have the option to use technology to create their questions and test one another using an app like Kahoot!
For students who haven't yet mastered the skill, they will spend more time either working on sequencing and drawing out each part of the story, or they will work on narrowing down which questions from the task cards they still don't understand and continue to quiz one another on those.
Students will begin by filling out a story map in small groups. Once they have finished, they will play sequencing games, first by racing to put the sentences in order, then to put pictures associated with the text in order.
