Supervisory Meeting - 2nd October 2019
Lit review
Progress
Submit pXRF geo section
Next section will be Roman CBM at Bath
Also discussed separation between CBM and vitreous industries in comparison to, say, earlier Assyrian CBM. Implies Roman CBM part of Mediterranean tradition, e.g. Greek and Etruscan too, separate from industries in earlier peiords in Near East and Egypt
Should my section on CBM in Bath also include the surrounding villas? This would probably be helpful
Especially if I do end up sampling material from these villas and contrasting with the city of Bath
TRAC Progress
Email asking for a redo with a more theoretical stance
Incorporation of globalisation theory, although I am leaning more towards the side of technical choices paradigm
In any case resubmission accepted so need to write and submit an abstract now
Visit to Bristol UBSS Little Solsbury Assemblage
Not yet heard from Grace as Wessex did not pass email on, Derek has now given me her email address so need to contact again
Update them on how it goes
Visit to Bath on 14th November
Try to tie in the plinth/statue analyses on the same day
Double check where everything is and safety precautions necessary and book out pXRF
Need to email Stephen to check if Maurice can pop along at lunch too
Need to get the ball seriously rolling in regards to the limestone drilling at the Radstock stores
This means email Susan again, visit stores, make a list of which stones to sample and numbers and CC in Cliveden Conservation to book in the drilling
Mortar Analyses
Need to do the risk assessment and COSHH to get the analysis underway
Keep an eye out for SEM training call!
Keep pushing with the UV resin stuff
Also talked about the new setup in the labs
Also discussed small contemporary/historical archaeology conference in central London in early November
May not be relevant to my Roman stuff though
Mentioned CiFA accreditation at both Bournemouth and UCL, including even Primtech and other field schools
Also talked about Matt Phelps and Derek
