-the superficial layer of areolar connective tissue consisting of loose interlacing collagen and elastic fiber and blood vessels

-makes up 80% of dermal thickness and it consists of coarse, dense fiberous connective tissue

-Medulla: Central core of large cells & air space
-Cortex: several layers of flattened cells surrounding the medulla
-Cuticle: outer layer consisting overlapping layers of single cells

-Vellus Hair: Pale, fine, body hair of children & adult females
-Terminal Hair: coarse, long hair found on scalp & eyebrows

Sweat Gland
-Also called sudoriferous glands
-is located in all surfaces except the nipples and external genitalia
-Has two parts of glands: Eccrine and Apocrine

Eccrine Sweat Gland
-AKA: Merocrine
- mainly in palms, sores and forehand
-Ducts connect to pores
Apocrine Sweat Gland
-Located in the axillary & anogental areas
-contains a fatty substance
Ducts with hair follicles
Sebaceous Gland
-it is located mostly everywhere except for thick skin of palms and soles
-it secretes oil from the hair

1st degree- epidermal damage only
2nd degree- Epidermal and upper dermal damage
3rd degree- entire thickness of skin involved
3 Types of Skin Cancer
-Basal Cell Carcinoma: the least dangerous and the most common that invades the dermis
-Squamous Cell Carcinoma: second most common type and reddened the papule on scalp, ears, and lower lip
-Melanoma: is the most dangerous because it is highly metastatic & resistant to chemotherapy
