Samuel Taylor Coleridge was born in Devonshire in 1722. In 1795 he met William Wordsworth with whom he collaborated. In these years, he met Wordsworth's sister-in-law, Sara Hutchinson, and fell in love with her. Unable to make the decision to separate from his wife to marry Sara, destroyed by the guilt complexes against his four children and suffering from a very painful rheumatic illness, he began to use opium, a dependence he never managed to get rid of. He died in 1834.
