Functions:
- anchoring the plant firmly to a sunstrare
- absorbing water and minerals

Types:
Tap root- Eg: carrots, beets, raddish
-primary root that persists throughout the life of a plant,
-occurs in dicots
-develops from the radicle
fibrous or adventitious root- Eg: wheat, rice, corn
-root that develops from any parts of the plant except the radicle or its derivatives
-occurs in monocots
-does not grow deep into the soil.

Terms:
Root cap:The root cap is a type of tissue at the tip of a plant root
Root Apical Meristem:The root apical meristem, or root apex, is a small region at the tip of a root in which all cells are capable of repeated division and from which all primary root tissues are derived.
Zone of elongation:The zone of cell elongation is the region in which newly formed cells by the activity of apical meristem start elongating.
Root Hair Zone:Root hair cells are outgrowths at a tip of the plant's roots.
