Election of 1800
- Animosity between the two political parties increased

- US bought a huge chunk of land, the louisiana territory, from France
- Doubled size of the United States
- Lewis and clark were explorers assigned by Jefferson to explore the flora and fauna of the new area

- Jefferson decides to use Navy to fight them, and earns some protection.
Embargo act of 1807
- an american attempt to keep peace with britain by cutting off trade to britain. This act did not work, however, as it had a more severe effect on the Americans than britain.
