Starter on Creative Writing
Learning Objective:
Students can show their knowledge of the genre to adapt a nursery rhyme to a gothic text.
Provide an activity that inspires creativity in preperation for the CW lesson ahead (B & C)
Provide an activity that incorperates reading at pace as a hook rather than to support the LOs (A)
Paced Reading: Activty A (5 mins)
One will scribe & one will read (swapping a 2 mins mark)
The reader will need to move to the other side of the room, read a certain amount of text and then relay the text to the scribe.
Students will be paired up
JDCM to plan anti-human-fratricide (stop collisions)
No test necessary, but their ability can be measured by amount of words - errors in spelling/punctuation.
Activity B (5 mins)
The second speaker will continue the story and JDCM to stop them mid-flow
Student will throw ball to another student and the process continues
JDCM must start a story but stop mid-sentence, he will pass a ball to the next speaker
Ball is retreived at end of story
Activity C (7 mins)
all students to start a piece in their books (Gothic style) "In a cold, dark cemetary..."
As stories are written, JDCM pauses every 40 secs then papers are passed to the right.
Explain the next activity is a silent/writing version of the last 'blue learning state'!
At the end books are to be piled up and placed away
