Credibility and Reliability
When was it Made?
Indicators:
Check to see if the website was made in recent years
Check also to see if the links on the website work
Example:
https://www.npr.org/sections/research-news/
This is a good example because it is a site that comes out with scientific studies often and so you can find a lot of recent works
Is the information accurate?
Indicators:
Check to see if the author shows where they found their information
Is the author a reliable, fact-driven source?
Example: Author - Saul McLeod
https://www.simplypsychology.org/katz-braly.html
This is a good example because it is a .org site and it also shows the references at the bottom.
Is there bias?
Indicators
Check to see if they are trying to sell something or if they are advertising something
Check to see if they are trying to push an idea onto you
Example Website: Author - Danny Faulkner
https://www.icr.org/article/can-life-exist-other-planets
This website is an example of a bad website because it is advertising Christianity and trying to push the idea of religion onto the readers.
Who is the Author?
Indications:
One indication: What is the author's background?
Check if the name of the author is even on the website.
Example Website: Author - Lisa Walden
https://www.mncpa.org/publications/footnote/2014-04/3-common-generational-stereotypes.aspx
This is trustworthy because it clearly states the author's name and the author is a communications director, consultant,
writer, researcher, and facilitator for a known organization.
