This is very sad, because this is a reflection of what nana said right before she died. I couldn't imagine only hearing one sentence from my mom saying that she would kill herself for me.

I wonder what Laila is gonna do if he does try to stop her. I hope she takes business into her own hands and deals with Rasheed.

She finally got her revenge on that grumpy old mean man. She should have done more than just killed him for what he did to her.

Chapters 31-40
“And, for the first time, it was not an adversary’s face Laila saw but a face of grievances unspoken, burdens gone unprotested, a destiny submitted to and endured.“ Housseini pg.249 ch.34
This seems like a little bit of foreshadowing. I think that they are gonna get revenge on Rasheed soon.
If they do take there revenge, how are Mariam and Laila gonna do it?
“‘ Why have you pinned your heart to an old, ugly hag like me?” Mariam would murmur into Aziza’s hair. “Huh? I am nobody, don’t you see? A dehati. What have I got to give you?’” Housseini Ch. 35 Pg. 252
Mariam is tried of bing pushed around and thought nothing of. She is starting to step up and be a woman with a voice.

“You don’t know what a communist is? Such a simple thing everyone knows. It’s common knowledge.” Ch. 14 page 98
This tells you a lot about the character. This tells us that she was not well educated according to the townspeople’s standards.

Mariam needs more respect because she does so much with hardly any recognition. She deserves so much more than what she receives.

I thought the book was good, it was very slow at first but it started to get more interesting halfway through the book. I think the ending could have been better,, and they should not have killed Mariam.
