Endomembrane System:
-
-
-
Vesicles: sac made of membranes that transfer membrane/proteins materials to golgi, and plasma membrane
-
-
Active Transport
-
-
-
-
-
Cotransport Protein
-
A transport protein that can diffuse down the concentration gradient and transport a second substance against its own concentration gradient
-
Cytoskeleton
-
Microfilaments:thinnest
-
-
-
-
-
-
cortical microfilaments helps support shape inside plasma membrane; giving cortex a more gel like consistency in outercytoplsmic layer
-
-
-
Passive Transport
-
-
once equilibrium is met, net flow
-
-
Energy Organelles:
Mitochondria
-
-
-
-
Inner membrane
Mitochondrial Matrix:enclosed by inner membrane contains free ribosoms, DNA, and enzymes
-
-
-
-
Endosymbiont Theory:
-
-
theory is accepted because these organelles are bound by 2 membranes vs the ones in the endomembrane system
-
-
-
Extracellular Components
-
animal
Extra cellular Matrix:made of glycoproteins, carbohydrates, and proteins
-
-
-
-
Cell Junctions
-
Animal
Desmosomes:anchors, function like rivets fastening cells together in strong sheets

Bulk Transport
Exocytosis
the cell secretes certain molecules by fusing with the cell membrane. A transport vesicle that buds off the Golgi Apparatus moves by the microtubules in the cytoskeleton.
Endocytosis
cell takes in molecules, and specific matter by making vesicles from the plasma membrane. A small area in the membrane will sink in and pinch off.
Pinocytosis:(cellular drinking): cell gulps droplets with extracellular fluid into tiny vesicles formed by infoldings of the plasma membrane
-
Receptor-Mediated:not very concentrated in extracellular fluid, receptor proteins embedded in the plasma membrane in extracellular fluid. Proteins then cluster into coated pits forming a vesicle
-
Human cells have receptor endocytosis that takes in cholesterol for membrane synthesis and synthesis of other steroids.
Phagocytosis: ( cellular eating) the cell engulfs particle by extending pseudopodia are it, packaging it in a food vacuole . The particle will be digested once food vacuole fuses with the lysosome and the hydrolytic enzymes break down the particle.
