Differentiating Using Pre-Assessments
Administer pre assessment to all students.
Meeting
Complete hyperdoc that includes links to videos, articles and simulations that will deliver the content of homeostasis to students (less focus on feedback loops)
Students will take their knowledge of homeostasis learned through the hyperdoc exploration and apply it to a real-world lab application by exploring the effects of exercise on homeostasis.
Students will answer analysis questions about the lab
Approaching
All students
I will be giving the students more remediation through direct instruction and guided practice. Students will first work on a KWL to narrow down further which exact benchmarks they need more help with. Students will then work on creating “study flash cards” to summarize the main ideas discussed with the topic of homeostasis.
ELL students
Include flashcards or learning visual tools that help clarify main vocabulary discussed. The tools will include a simplified definition of the term along with a visual representation.
Use frayer models to summarize and define the main vocabulary terms involved. Frayer models also allow students to make connections to “big ideas”.
SEL students
Buddy-up the student with a more advanced student so that they receive extra tutoring
Have the students work with a learning specialist so that they work on study skills depending on their needs.
Use modeling with students to demonstrate complex or abstract ideas.
Use assistive technologies such as apps or computer programs to help deliver more complex ideas/topics.
Use a multi-sensory approach to introduce the new material on homeostasis
Use modified instructions for assignments or activities
Exceeding
Complete hyperdoc on homeostasis and feedback loops
Explore the concept of feedback loops even further by looking at more complicated examples (ex. feedback loops that monitor thermoregulation, child birth etc)
Create a poster that summarizes one feedback loop responsible for maintaining homeostasis
