The Scrum Master acts as:
Mirror
The ScrumMaster acts as a mirror to the team, showing the team areas where they must improve, but also underscoring the team’s strengths.
The ScrumMaster should show the team the things it is doing
Tools
Visible Status
Daily Scrum
Sprint Retrospective
The ScrumMaster must collect and analyze data, and identify trends.
Knight of the Mirrors shows the team areas of improvement. Coach helps the team actually do the improvement.
Catalyst
Create an environment in which team members want to come together to communicate and collaborate, as well as provide opportunities for them to come together.
It is also necessary to get people motivated to come together.
The ScrumMaster works with the team to change it into a highly collaborative, jelled team.
Instructor, Mentor or Coach
Identify deficiencies in how people are doing tasks.
Then the coach helps the team learn how to overcome the deficiency.
The coach continually monitors and provides helpful feedback.
The coach challenges the team to achieve even higher levels of performance.
Champion of vision and values
Cheerleader
The ScrumMaster encourages team members, praises small successes, and makes them visible.
Like Knight of the Mirrors, this pattern is about self-awareness. Unlike Knight of the Mirrors, this pattern's focus is on encouragement and motivation.
Done Master
The ScrumMaster ensures that the team follows its Definition of Done by requiring that each member of the team take responsibility for ensuring that their developments meet it.
The first is that the Definition of Done must be sufficiently concrete that it is clear that it has been reached or not.
The second aspect is to make sure that development adheres to the Definition of Done.
Voice of Value Focus
The ScrumMaster continually prods the team to focus on doing the things necessary to support the broader value proposition.
Product Owner Trainer
The ScrumMaster asks the Product Owner to give the team the things the Product Owner should already be creating (or doing)
The whole idea of this pattern is that the ScrumMaster helps Product Owners succeed by gently teaching them
