Scientific and technological addvances in navigation. Many geographers believed that the world was round
Economic factor
Gold and silver was need to make coins, and Europe was highly dependent on products such as spices and silk imported from Asia. The traditional trade rout to obtain spices was blocked, so alternative routs had to be found
Key characteristics of a new area:
Religious changes
This was a period of religious intolerance: Jews and Muslims were persecuted.
Social changes
The wealthy middle class became more important. Europe also recovered from the population criss of the 14th century
Cultural changes
New artisticstyles appeared, such as Renaissance art,icluding humanism. The printing press.
Economic changes
Craftwork and trade experienced a period of important growth,but crop and livestock farming continued to be the main economc activities. They need to obtain precious metals to complete trade transactions.
Political changes
Courts and parliamentsdidn't dissapear, monarchies gained a lot of power
Feudal economics and society
The three estates
Third estate
Most members of this estate were peasants
Artisans, merchants, doctors, lawyers, etc. They didn't have their own justice system
They lived on a feudal manor, or by the king
The taxes they paid sustained the privileged estaes and the monarchy
Noblemen
They didn't work
They could be only judge by the king or by other noblemen and they onlypay taxes to the monarch
The most important noblemen had feudal estates
They charged the people on their land taxes and administrated justice to them
Clergy
Had a spiritual function on society: toprotect people's souls.
They continued to enjoy privileges such as collecting tithe payments and having their own justice system
Like the nobility, the clergy, didnt pay taxes
High clergy could also be feudal lords
