Bonding
Ionic
How Does It Work
An ion is a charged atom or molecule. It is charged because the number of electrons do not equal the number of protons in the atom or molecule. An atom can acquire a positive charge or a negative charge depending on whether the number of electrons in an atom is greater or less then the number of protons in the atom.

Naming and Formular
formular
formulas for ionic compounds. The atoms in molecules bond to one another through "sharing"of electrons. ... Positively charged atoms or molecules are called "cations" and negatively charged atoms or molecules are called "anions".
naming
An ionic compound is named first by its cation and then by its anion. The cation has the same name as its element. For example, K+1 is called the potassium ion, just as K is called the potassium atom.

Explain The Properties
It may be described as the sharing of free electrons among a structure of positively charged ions (cations). Metallic bonding accounts for many physical properties of metals, such as strength, ductility, thermal and electrical resistivity and conductivity, opacity, and luster.
