Seven barriers of Communication
Interpersonal Barriers
We may not put forward ideas due to doubting our ability to create good, creative ides.
these are barriers which prevent us from communicating on a personal level. Poor interpersonal barriers of communication can come from someone having a bad image of themselves and being self conscious to displaying their full potential. for example missing out pieces of information in a sentence because they want the sentence to be finished because someone is looking at them or if they are self conscious about their voice etc.
Cultural Barriers
Cultural barriers can be where two viewpoints collide on a way to deal or go about a certain situation. This could for example be two people having different religions.
if two cultures clash this can cause cultural issues
Perceptual Barriers
Trying to speak to someone who is deaf. The deaf person cannot hear you however it may look like they are ignoring you.
Language that is sarcastic, dismissive, or even obtuse is a perceptual barrier as one party tries to communicate with another in a certain way however the other party cannot comprehend how they are communicating, or does not understand how they are trying to communicate with them.
Emotional Barriers
threats, harsh words, actual violence
when someone is speaking emotionally, they may speak unreasonably and not genuinely mean what they say. Hence why the police say the phrase "anything you say can be used against you"
Physical Barriers
Distance can be a physical barrier as needing to speak to somebody face to face or someone in general you need to travel, which takes time and therefore stops or hinders you from talking to one another
Working within a booth/ small work space with walls or gaps in between working areas
Gender Barriers
men and women are created differently genetically and this means that men and women are different in how they form their thoughts. Men are better at spatial visualization whereas women are better at language based thinking and emotional identification.
Gender barriers between communication have changed over recent years and have improved massively however there are still issues. but there is still the possibility for a man to
misconstrue the words of a woman, or vice versa.
Language Barriers
Accents can also create a language barrier as those from different areas of the world/ UK will have different accents meaning the way they pronounce words and phrases will be different to others.
The use of slang may not be understood from everybody from round the country and in different areas of the country there are different forms of slang.
