- - - - Pompeii was covered in burning ash and smoke when Mt V erupted. The ash that covered all the buried bodies was called a cast. Historians could tell how they lived and dressed once they recovered the casts. It erupted in 79Ad.
      - Hierachy of social groups
        
        The pyramid was Patricians, Plebians and slaves
        
        Women in society were technically citizens, they had few rights and raised the children, they were not allowed to vote
        
        Foreigners were not born in Rome. Not full citizens and could not vote.
        
        Slaves had no rights. If freed their sons could become citizens. Some were turned into Gladiators or worked in the mines.
        
        Plebians were the major population. Had some say in the laws. Owned some land. Eventually began to challenge the authority of the Paqtricians.
        
        Patricians were wealthy and owned land. They made up the senate of Rome. They made up the laws.
- - - - Education. Depending on status if you attened school. No Universities. Girls not encouraged. Now school is encouraged
        
        Women in Society had few rights. Their job was to raise the children and run the household. Now after the Punic Wars can vote, have rights and financial independence..
        
        Weddings. Girls were married from the age of 12. Men in their twenties. Divorce was rare. Now marriage is not arranged
      - Gods. Zues, King of Gods, changed to Jupiter. Posidon, God of the sea, changed to Neptune. Ares, God of war, changed to Mars.
