Ultimately, social change comes from the bottom up, people respond to economic pressures and as the social norms shift, business and politics have to respond accordingly
Contrary to Hunt - who believes that the ideals and systems in place by enlightenment is the origin of human rights, and social change originates from changes

August 19th - Business roundtable, most powerful influential lobbying organization for the nation's biggest companies, came out and said that shareholder were going to be just one piece of a larger puzzle and that companies should focus on all stakeholders, such as customers, suppliers communities
the idea that many of these stakeholders are even being acknowledged as part of the equation is a major shift in recent US business
Just weeks later, Sept 3rd, Walmart largest retailer says it will stop selling products used by mass shooters and call on Congress to consider a new ban on assault rifles.
What motivates these companies to conduct themselves in this way, as community-minded corporations investing in their employees and in their communities
Ultimately, because its good for business

Business are ultimately going to conduct themselves in a way that's profitable, and in this moment, listening to the public opinion is what is profitable. It is the changing norms of the public that brought about this social change
