67 year old male patient, D.G. admitted for right branch retinal artery occlusion
Pathophysiology: a branch of the retinal artery, the artery that supplies the inner layers of the retina of the eye (responsible for absorbing light and converting it into electrical signals which travel to the brain and form a mental picture of what the eye is capturing), is occluded by a clot which causes the patient to lose a section of their visual field
Signs and symptoms
-
Acute persistent painless loss of vision (may even go unnoticed if only a section of the peripheral visual field space is affected)
-
-
Diagnostic tests/labs
CBC count to evaluate anemia, polycythemia, and platelet disorders
