Energy and Change
Non- Renewable Energy
-
Fossil Fuels
Formed by decomposing, prehistoric animals.
Takes millions of years and cannot be replenished
E.g. Crude Oil (Petrol and Diesel)
Coal
Source of energy used to generate electricity by power stations.
Also used to cook on a stove or in a fire.
Natural Gas
Found in deep underground rock formations, and usually with other fossil fuels.
Gas formed over thousands of years as organic matter decays and the gas became trapped in wells which we now mine.
Renewable Energy
Energy that can be replenished, recycled or reused.
Hydro Power
Rapidly falling water is used as a source of energy
Dams are being created to let the falling water turn turbines in order to generate electricity
Wind
Wind is moving air particles. When it moves fast it turns windmills which turn turbines to generate electricty
BioFuels
Fuels made from plants and animals waste. Methane gas can be produced from decomposing animal waste.
Solar Power
The sun is a start that provides heat and light energy to the earth. Solar panels are used to trap the sunlight; to store that energy and use it.
Energy
-Energy is the ability to do work
-All living things need energy to live and carry out processes
-Organisms and substances store energy; known as renewable and non- renewable energy
