Macbeth: Characters
Lady Macbeth
Macbeth's highly ambitious wife who persuades him to kill Duncan. Her guilt from her part in the murders contributes to her insanity making her commit suicide.

Macbeth
A warrior and leader of Duncan's army. He is tempted to murder Duncan by the witches prophecies and his wife. He becomes paranoid that people are suspicious of him which is why he kills Banquo, and he attempts to kill Fleance to.

Banquo
Macbeth's co-commander in the army and his friend. He also hears the witches prophecies but resists temptation. He is also murdered by Macbeth as he thinks Banquo is suspicious of him murdering Duncan.
'King, Cawdor,glamis,all, as the weird women promised, and I fear thou played most foully for it'.
Macduff
Another Scottish Thane who goes to England to find Malcolm and help build up an army to fight against Macbeth. He eventually kills Macbeth in Act 5, Scene 9.
'O gentle Lady, tis not for you to hear what I can speak'.

Malcolm
Duncan's eldest son, Duncan announces that he is next in line for the Throne. He flees to England after his fathers murder making him the prime suspect. He does become King.

Duncan
The King of Scotland who is murdered by Macbeth in Act 2, Scene 2. He is presented as true and gracious, which proves the Elizabethan beliefs that a King was Gods deputy on Earth.

The Witches
The three witches represent the supernatural force, they tell Macbeth that her will become Thane of Cawdor and then the King of Scotland.
'Fair is foul and foul is fair, hover through the fog and filthy air'.
Ross
A Scottish Thane, who commentates on the actions of the play and their effects on whats happening around the castle.He tells Macbeth when he's Thane of Cawdor and tells Macduff when his family are killed.

Lennox
He is with Macduff the morning Duncan is found. He is convinced of Macbeth's guilt and he deserts Macbeth once Malcolm's army invades.

Angus
He accompanies Ross to tell Macbeth of his new title the Thane of cawdor. He deserts Macbeth when Malcolm invades bringing reinforements to his army.
'His title hang loose about him, like a giants robe upon a dwarfish thief'.
