Improving the Character Education Program within my school
Initiation
Research of evidence based practices within and out of our district
Communicate the vision of this program to the various stakeholders (i.e., students, parents, community members/parternships, all staff) and seek their input
Collect data and evidence of various Character Education Programs locally and abroad. This would be accessed using my board's Character Education Teacher Consultant.
Alignment with board and provincial visions/goals
Seek staff involvement by sending out an email or speaking to them personally. Create a core team to help develop lessons, find resources and be a lead. Utilize their competencies and expertise.
Sit down with my school's superintendent and my administration team to discuss release time, get their perspective and if any funds can be allocated to the program.
Implementation
Capacity building through PLC's
During PLC's staff will have the opportunity to explore the various tools available to them to help support the Character Education program.
During PLC's, lessons on Character Education will be delivered to students from the Character Education School Team
Creating a collaborative culture
sharing resources, providing constructive feedback, having common prep times, team teach
Leadership influences ( senior administration, principals, staff, students, community members, families)
Sending resources home to families. Share data and research in school newsletters and on school our school messaging program (Edsby).
Sustainability
Collect data through use of (pre and post surveys, interviews, questionnaires, meetings) from various stakeholders
Review the program often with diverse stakeholders and seek feedback. Use the framework "Renovator's Delight" cited: Jason Clarke - Embracing Change
Share our success and look for areas to further grow
Look for ways to get funding through grants and community outreach.
Provide training for new staff at our school.
Funding is currently available through our board for this programming. What if it changes? Looking at the financial costs to continue this program will be important.
