      - He was touted as a "savage pygmy", and was photographed with a monkey. Visually this propagates the racialized idea that Africans are uncivilized and inhumane. Equivocating monkeys or apes with Black folks has been used popular culture, and can contemporarily be connected to the ways in which tennis star Serena Williams has been treated by the media for showing emotion.

    - - The media, specifically newspapers, participated in the racialization of people of Central African descent by calling them the "lower type of the human race." The news industry, which is toted as being "objective", has historically misrepresented people of color to propagate white supremacy. This document also describes how a missionary had done the work of bringing Central Africans for the exhibit. Additionally, the term "heathen" is utilized to other those that are being displayed in the human exhibits.
      - Objectivity has been linked to the media as well as various academic fields to justify white supremacy. White anthropologists were seen as the experts of other human races, thus allowing them to seem credible. As a student, I have endeavored in the process of decolonizing my own mind as a student that has grown up learning white history as being the truth. The process of othering includes invalidating the experiences of people that don't fall within the typical framework of white America. Those that don't fit must advocate for their own representation within the media industry, and within the curriculum that is taught in schools (CRES).

- - - - The St. Louis World's Fair of 1904 not only showcased one Filipino indigenous tribe, but several of them from all over the islands. President William Taft thought that this exhibition would allow for him to "showcase" his new colonial prizes from The Treaty of Paris, in which the Philippines was acquired from Spain. The representation of Filipino tribes as being exotic and foreign allows the U.S. public to understand America's colonies in a certain framing. It helps justify the reasoning behind imperialist conquest, and disregards the society and culture of indigenous people.
