Industrial Revolution

The time when production of goods were transported to factorys to be worked on. This is when changes in manufactoring changed. This event occured during he 1700's to the 1800's.

Developments in agriculture

Crop Rotations

Wheat -> Barley -> Vegetable -> Clover

Improved Farming Machinery

Early 1800's new farming machinery, mechnical drills, reaping machines. These machines made farming more efficient, increased profits and improved animal breeding and rearing.

Enclosures

More than 4000 Enclosure Acts were passed by the British parliament. Areas of land were enclosed by hedges and stone walls, this caused social unrest as the poor were forced off the land, many poor flooded into cities and became working class

Developments in Transport

Industrialists demanded quicker and cheaper transport from the factories to the markets

First railway line in 1825 this caused the increse to create more iron hence the fact production had doubled

The popuation of Britain increased by 30 million in 150 years

The Alliance system

In World War 1 there were 2 main alliances being the triple alliance and the triple entente

Assasination of archeduke Franz Ferdinand

He was the peacekeeper between Austria-Hungary and Serbia and with him being assasinated the peace changed

Australias entry

Australia had only been a single federated country for 13 years they were still dominated by the British Empire and obliged to follow British government. When Britain declared war on Germany Australia was automatically involved being a colony

Impact on Australia

Before the war Australia was a small and young nation with less that 5 million people, Australia lost 600,000 young men whilst many being fittest and most able. Australia had the highest amount of people lost in the Commonwealth
