The death rate on the plantations were high due to many factors such as disease, low nutrition, overworking and more.

The slaves were treated harshly because the slave owners wanted to prevent a slave rebellion.

Many Plantation owners preferred to have new slaves imported in opposed to taking care of the slaves they had.

Slaves that worked in plantations were usually tasked with clearing land, planting, harvesting, manuring, or weeding.

About 55% of the slaves that were imported to the Caribbeans worked in sugar plantations

Plantations typically held around 150 slaves.

Plantations in the Caribbean usually consisted of sugar cane.

The conditions were high in heat and humidity.

Rebellions were plentiful up until the emancipation in 1834.

Enslaved women, on average, had a low child birth rate. The children that the women did have often died at a young age.

it was discovered that after George Washingtons death, a recorded 317 slaves worked at the mount vernon plantation

many things were stolen by the slaves according to Washingtons writings

milk, butter, tools, alcohol, and other foods

other forms of common slave protest done in mount Vernon were little things that had almost no risk

working slower, producing worse product, breaking tools

this was the most risky way to protest and almost always lead to death if the slaves were caught

some of the slaves who ran away were very well known by the washington family
