Emily Bogush and Hannah Lublin
Direct Characterization
"and from the great breathing cage of the upper body those two delicate arms dangled out front...."
The significance of this quote is that you can see how giant the creature is and the reality of the situation really hit the hunters
Irony
"Thank god Keith won" (pg 1)
Ironic because he changed the future and Deustcher won. This supports the theme that something small can change something bigger in the future.
Indirect Characterization
"I've hunted tigers, wild boar, buffalo, elephant but now this is it"
This quote shows Eckles cocky personality and how he thinks of himself as this great hunter. However when the T-Rex comes he runs at the face of danger.
Personification
"The jungle was wide and full of twitterings, rustlings, murmurs, and sighs."(pg 5)
This makes the jungle feel more alive and inserts the readers into the story
Foreshadowing
this quote foreshadows what happens at the end after Eckles destroys the past when he steps of the path. He caused the loss of a presidential election by stepping on a butterfly.
".. If Deutscher had gotten in we'd have the worst kind if dictatorship"
Conflict
"stepped off the Path, and walked, not knowing it, in the jungle. His feet sank into green moss. "
Eckles did the one think he was told not to do that could cause catastrophic events in the future if things were changed in the past. He stepped off the path and into the juggle where he could change anything.
Symbolism
"There's red paint on its chest!"(pg 6)
The red paint symbolizes that the dinosaur is going to die because blood is red and you usually see blood when someone is injured or dying.
Simile
This quote helps the readers to understand how many teeth and the sharpness of them. It helps them picture the dinosaur and it creates fear.
"Its mouth gaped, exposing a fence of teeth like daggers." (pg 5)
Hyperbole
"The sun stopped in the sky." (pg 2)
This quote is significant because the sun didn't really stop in the sky because it is always moving. The author used this as an exaggeration of how Eckals felt that everything stopped when he saw the past world.
