Gold et al. (1992) examined the effect shift work had on sleep and accidents related to sleepiness in hospital nurses, considering: current shift work patterns, quality of sleep, alcohol usage, medication, use of sleeping aids and/or drugs, nodding off at work and while driving to and from work, accidents/near misses
Night workers were 1.8 times more likely to report poor quality sleep compared to day/evening nurses (rose to 2.8 more likely for rotators)
