Unit 1 Themes
Conflict and Change
Native Americans were dying, so the colonists were losing their workers. They started buying slaves to do their work instead.
-
The settlers in the New England Colonies did not have religious freedom in England, so they came to the New World where they could practice freely.
Slaves were treated terribly by their slave owners, so they rebelled, killed whites, and burned houses.
-
Power and Authority
-
Native Americans settled in the New World first, but because the settlers were more technologically advanced (guns) they were able to take over.
Slaves did not have any rights ( couldn't travel without permission from owner, couldn't make money, couldn't meet in large groups without permission), their owner controlled them completely.
England had more power then the colonies because they had been around longer, had more money, and benefited from the goods the colonies had.
