Power and authority
When the colonies were first settled they could only trade with the king ( the mother country). This caused the colonies to trade with other countries behind the kings back.
During the Stono slave rebellion the African American slaves revolted in fury of the way they were being treated. They decided to start the rebellion at this time because they had power in numbers. They were heading for the coast because the Spanish promised them freedom if they made it there. This caused the white slave owners to make slave codes.
The Europeans used their power to capture slaves from Barbados and Africa and bring them back to work on their plantations. They used their guns to force the slaves onto the ships. The Europeans then took a route called the middle passage. It took about six months to complete this journey. The conditions the slaves were put in on the boats was horrible. Some even tried to commit suicide because they thought these white men were going to kill them.

One example of science and technology is the invention of the ship. Ships allowed Europeans to travel and trade with other country's and colonies.
The invention of indigo helped people's clothing look better. This blue dye came from the indigo plant. Eliza Lucas Pickney was the lady that made this crop popular and able to be used in clothing.
The invention of guns allowed different countries to take control of lands. They allowed the Europeans to take African slaves.

Location and geography effected what people of that colony were able to grow and hunt. For example if the area they settled in had a mild climate then they would be able to grow crops like tobacco for money.
This also effected who the colonist traded with. This depended on who was close to them and who had the riches or materials they wanted.
Conflict and change

By 1730 around 2700 slaves formed together and rebelled against the whites. They picked this opportunity because there was more slaves than whites. They had power in numbers. This caused the slaves freedom to change because the whites invented slave codes.
When the Carolina farmers began to form plantations they tried to use the Natives as slaves. This did not work because the Natives easily escaped. This caused the Carolina farmers to use African slaves instead.
The idea of mercantilism caused conflict within trade. This happened because the colonies that the mother country owned could only trade with the mother country. This caused the colony to secretly trade with other country's.
Gullah was formed because the white slave owners were treating the slaves badly. The slaves came up with their own language to speak about the whites behind their back. This language was a mix between English words and African words.
