Unit 1
Conflict and Change
My first example of conflict and change in unit 1 is when the European explorers tried to use Native Americans to work on the fields, but they escaped easily. This conflict is man versus man and caused the European explorers to place Africans into slavery to work on their plantations.
My second example of conflict and change is when the English explorers were tired of being restrained from expressing their faith freely. This conflict is man versus society and caused the English to sail to the Americas to find religious freedom.
My third example of conflict and change is the Stono Rebellion. The cause of this man versus society conflict was the imbalance of slaves and slave holders. This group of slaves were tired of being treated unfairly and rebelled, killing many white men, women, and children. This rebellion caused strict Slave Codes to be placed upon slaves.
My fourth example of conflict and change is the conflict the people had in the Upcountry towards their government. These people were in desperate need of law and order, so they started taking matters into their own hands. This man versus society conflict caused the Regulator Movement.

Power/Authority
My first example of the Power/Authority theme is the power that England had over their citizens religious freedom. Because of this, they set sail in the Mayflower to have religious freedom at their new home.
My second example of the theme Power/Authority is the 'power' that the southern colonists thought they had over the natives. They were shown that they didn't have as much power as they had thought when many of the natives easily escaped.
My third example of the Power/Authority theme is the authority that had to step up that caused the Regulator Movement.
My fourth example of the theme Power/Authority is the Authority the white slaveholders had over the African slaves.

Location/Geography
My first example of the theme Location/Geography is how the different tribe's locations affected what food they ate and how they lived. The Cherokee tribe fished, the Catawba tribe made pottery, and the Yemassee tribe caught clams and oysters.
My second example of the theme Location/Geography is how the different countries sold different things in triangular trade. The Americas have plenty of raw materials, Europe had the resources to create manufactured goods, and Africa had music and culture that other countries did not.
The third example of the theme Location/Geography is the difference between the Upcountry's location and the Lowcountry's location. The Upcountry was poor and uneducated, while the Lowcountry was wealthy and educated.
My fourth example of the Location/Geography theme is how the location and geography in the different colonies affected how they made money. The Southern colonies had wonderful temperatures for growing crops, so this was their main profit, the Middle colonies had harbors and fertile land, and the New England colonies cut trees and built ships.
