The concept of "othering" and "foreignizing" women of color is rooted in colonization, and these stereotypes and tropes still lingering our media today. Women of color are often viewed exotic and are hyper-sexualized in the today's media.
Black Women
The Jezebel
The Jezebel trope is the hyper-sexualization and objectifying of Black women's bodies and over exaggeration of their desire for sex. This depicts Black women as whores and emphasizes their curvy bodies.
Nicki Minaj is a prime example of The Jezebel trope. She has extremely large breast and butt. She is consistently wearing revealing clothing, if clothed at all, and sings songs about sex. Minaj is the epitome of a Black woman's curvy body.
Patrice Brown, a teacher from Atlanta has trended on social media as #TeacherBae. She posted pictures on her instargram in her classroom wearing outfits ranging from snug dresses to t-shirts. She has received backlash being deemed unprofessional and has received questions about her competency as a teacher due to the fact that she has a curvy body. Brown is a real life example of how Black women are hyper-sexualized; she didn't have any scandalous incidence with any students, she simply wore a dress that showed off her curvy figure.
Olivia Pope in Scandal is an example of The Jezebel because of her sexy appearance and countless number of sex scenes. Pope has multiple sex partners throughout the series and is the president's mistress.

Asian Women
Dragon Lady
The Dragon Lady is characterized by her overt sexual and physical aggression, mysteriousness and intimidation. She usually wears traditional Chinese clothing with dragon print or tight revealing clothing, specifically revealing her breasts. Her weapon of choice tends to be a slashing or stabbing weapon and she usually knows martial arts
Chun Li from the video game Street Fighter is a classic example of the Dragon Lady trope. She is depicted as excessively strong with huge muscular arms and legs illustrating her overt physical aggression. Chun Li is also shown various times with little clothing and huge breasts. Cosplay costumes often hyper-sexualize Chun Li's appearance, and she has become a fetish of the community along with other "Dragon Lady" characters.
Alex Munday is an example of the Dragon Lady trope in American media in the move Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle. In one of the first scenes of Charlie's Angels she is seen using martial arts on her boyfriend–a Dragon Lady trope indicator. Her go to weapon is martial arts and is often fighting with slashing or nunchuck like weapons. She is also regularly dressed in tight revealing clothing and is also shown in traditional Chinese clothing giving a massage in a scene of the movie.
Lady Tsunade from Naruto is of many examples of the Dragon Lady trope in Japanese anime. Tsunade is characterized as excessively aggressive, in fact her special skill is super strength and intimidating. Tsunade has a short fuse and is often shown throwing other characters. Periodically throughout the show Tsunade's excessively large breast are shown, especially during a fighting scene.
Native American Women
The Chief's Daughter
The Chief's Daughter is often the first to befriend the (white) traveler during his visit to the strange new land. She is beautiful with enough racial traits to be exotic. She is often characterized as shown as pure, gentle and "one-with-nature"–following common stereotypes about Indigenous women–this is illustrated by animals flocking to her.
Pocahontas is a classic example of The Chief's Daughter. She is the one to great the white man and eventually falls in love with him. She is one with nature and this is shown by her relationship with animals and the willow tree. Pocahontas is the pure, innocent, and beautiful Indian maiden so exotic she is irresistible to the white man.
Kida from the movie Atlantis: The Lost Empire is an example of The Chief's Daughter trope because is she is spirited and gains power from the crystal that powers Atlantis. She is also hyper sexualized by illustrating her physical appearance with very little clothing–similar to how Europeans "discovered" Indigenous people and described them as savage and uncivil due to their lack of clothing.
Latina Women
Spicy Latina
The Spicy Latina trope is characterized as a femme fatal with a fierce temper, She is short-tempered and confrontational, and often times has a rough background where they had to learn to defend themselves.She can be a tomboy who is irresistible or wear sexy tight clothing and is very flirty
Letty Ortiz is the tomboy Spicy Latina. She wears baggy clothing, loves muscle cars, and is fierce competition on the streets. She has a tough shell and occasionally shows her soft side. Letty is badass who can fight and take care of herself. Her fiery attitude and tomboy style makes her irresistible for her love interest Dom Toretto.
Xoimara Villanueva is a classic example of the Spicy Latina. She wears tight revealing clothing and is not afraid to share her love for sex. She is the opitomy of the sexy, exotic, Latina woman .
