A Thousand Splendid Suns
-
Quote: "Of all the daughters i could've had, why did god give me an ungrateful one like you?" Chapter 5 pg. 27
Reflection: There is obviously something else going on with jalil nana isn't telling mariam. First I thought it was just nanas broken heart. But this has to be more than that for her to call mariam a bastard again! Unless it is just nana trying to keep the one stable thing she has in her life safe, and that is mariam.
Reflection: This shows mariams misunderstanding of why nana is the way she is when it comes to jalil. It makes me wonder what else jalil did to nana. Also Why hasn't nana told mariam if it was so important?
Reflections
This shows Mariam, being religious, is finding a way to get through hard times. And it shows her coping with the struggles and growing up while not getting hung up on the heartbreak.
The women she was talking to made her realize where she stood in terms of social interaction. Although it talks about the ignorance of Mariam, we begin to see Mariam maturing a little.
Rasheed is Frankly, an extremely horrible guy. To be that cruel to a younger girl who is also your wife is obviously something that could permanently scar people to a point where they trust no one.
