A Thousand Splendid Suns
quotes
"mariam, saw. A gust of wind blew and parted the drooping branches of the weeping willow like a curtain" ch. 5 pg.36
This was a big moment for Mariam because she was just let down by her father and her mother hung herself. Mariam I believe will blame herself because her nana told her that she would die if she left. And that is what happens and I think this might have been the worst thing that could've happend.
"The next Mariam signed her name to a document, twenty seven years later a mullah would be preset " ch 8 pg 54
I believe that this part of the book is trying to imply that the next time that she signed a paper this meanrashead died and she had to sign papers at his funeral.Or she had to get a divorce which I think is unlikely.Either way this is a longtime before mariam leaves rasheed she would be around 40 at this time
"I didn't eat or sleep , all I did was push and pray that would come out"
"I'm sorry nana"
ch. 2 pg.11
I found this quote very sad because it wasn't mariams fault that she was born.Yet he mother still resents her for it even though it was her mothers own fault. So honestly i think Mariam shouldn't take this type of treatment.

11-20 quotes 1-3
''Mariam wished her mother were alive to see this.To see her, amid all of it.To see at last that contentment and beauty were not unattainable things.Even for the likes of them.''
This quote makes me sad knowing what will happen next. Mariam is so happy about having a child but this is honesty the happiest moment of her life but also the end of her happy life. Rashid is about to make her life a living hell and it wasn't even her fault. Ch 12 Pg.81
"The boy's stepped aside in a hurry. They gave him a clear path to Khadim. Then it was all dust and fists and kicks and yelps. Khadim never bothered Laila again.''
Ch. 18 Pg.134
This shows that Khadim cares for Laila. But I'm still unsure if he cares for her as a sister or as something more.We later find out that Laila loves Tariq as her brother and a crush, but how does Tariq feel?
“Mammy was soon asleep, leaving Laila with dueling emotions reassured that Mammy meant to live on , stung that she was not the reason.” Ch.20 Pg 144
I find this horrible and sad for Laila to have to relize this as a twelve year old that her mother doent want to live because of her.Her mother misses her sons so much that she doesn't relize that she as a caring daughter right in front of her.And Laila has to live in a house with her knowing this fact.

Do you think that Rashid only wanted to marry someone because he wanted a child, or for other reasons, or a combination of both?
Why do you think Jalil came to visit mariam? Do you think Mariam allowed him inside, because of what he’s done to her?
Why do you think that the loss of Lailas two brothers affected her mom so much if she has many other children.?(I get that they were her children and I'm not saying that you shouldn't be sad but why do you think it affected her so much?

Do you think that rashead was truly a horrible person from the beginning or do you think that his personality was changed throughout the traumatic events in his life

“Mammy was soon asleep, leaving Laila with dueling emotions reassured that Mammy meant to live on , stung that she was not the reason.” Ch.20 Pg 144

I liked this book, it was a book that I wouldn't have even considered unless I had to read it for school but it turned out to be really good.I appreciated that there was a happy ending to this book that was filled with horrible problems and events.I also liked how the author was effectivley able to switch characters throughout the book.

quotes
Chapter 48-Youre not my baba jan !hes is away o a trip ,and when he gets back hes gonna beat you up"Page 379(Hosseini)
I find this sad because he is asking for his father who he love. But I have mixed emotions because I hated Rasheed so I don’t feel bad at the same time.
chapter42" But when the time for goodbyes came, the scene errupted precisley as laila had dreaded Aziza Panicked" PAge Page319(Hosseini)
This is so heart breaking for Laila and Aziza. Aziza has to live with the fact that they kept her brother but not her. And she also has to know that her family can’t keep her.

Chapter 21-30
Quotes
Chapter28
And sadly Mariam new That her suspicions were right. She understood with a dread that was like a blinding whacked the side of her head that what she was witnessing was nothing less than a courtship.(Hoseini) Page 213
I find this disgusting behavior. Because Mary I’m just lost both of her parents and her home and she was taking advantage of that by trying to make her his wife. And Mariam is having a hard time with us and Rashead justify discussing that I think is not very fair he is going to put her on the streets which is even worse.
Chapter 29 He wants an answer by the morning Mariam said.He can have one nor."The girl said. My answer is yes."(Hosseini) pg 216
I find this quote very sad because laila just had the opportunity to marry her actual true love. And now she has to settle for Rasheed who is a horrible person, just because she knows she wouldnt' be able to live without his protection.
Chapter 21 Did you ever bring mammy up here. Laila asked. Oh many times. Before the boys were born. After two. Your mother, she used to be an interesting, and... So alive. She was just about the liveliest, happiest person I’ve ever met. He smiled at the memory. She had this laugh. I swear it’s why I married her, Laila, for that laugh.(Hoseini Pg 149
I find it sad that Mammy used to be a widely happy person. And since the loss of her sons her Manor has completely changed her life and her family. But we see here that at one point in Laila’s father and mother did love each other.
