History
1993: SUA and WWF merge to form the Maritime Union of Australia (MUA)
1872: Sydney Wharf Labourers Union established, later becoming the Waterside Workers Federation (WWF)
1917: Wharf labourers partook in a nationwide strike against low wages, high inflation, war profiteering and anti-union politics
1906: Several unions combined into the Seamen's Union of Australia (SUA)
1938: Wharf labourers at Port Kembla refused to load pig iron that they suspect could be used in Japan to make bombs; future pig iron shipments ceased at the port
1973: SUA created the Seafarers Retirement Fund
1976: SUA boycotted oil from South Africa to weaken the Apartheid regime, which had enforced racist policies
