Rheumatoid factors: seropositive versus seronegative (serpositive indicates more aggressive disease)
ACPA (important dx tool, found in most patients with RA) (this will appear in the serum earlier than RF)

ACR test >/=6, based on serology, joint involvement, sx duration, etc.
Signs/symptoms

Swelling around joints, joint stiffness

weakness, low grade fever, loss of appetite

Etiology/Pathophysiology
Chronic inflammation of synovial tissue, leads to pannus
Pannus: inflammed, proliferating synovial tissue. This invades cartilage and leads to destruction of the joint.

Note: cannot reverse joint damage, can only prevent progression
