can donate once in 2 months
LABORATORY TESTING
Haematology+biochemistry+urine analysis
annually in regular donors
prior to transfusion in others
FeLV/FIV
vector - borne diseases (haemoplasmas, bartonella, in special case ehrlichia, anaplasma, babesia, neorickettsia, ricketsia, cytauxozoon )
PCV 30-35%
blood typing
EXCLUSION CRITERIA
:
long term Tx
any signs of the disease
anaesthesia/deep sedation
mix
ketamin 100mg/ml, midazolam 5mg/ml
-give
max 0,1ml/kg iv
use iv catheter
clip and asepticaly prepare jugular vein area
3pcs 20ml syringes with 3ml og anticoagulant (acid citrate dextrose or citrate phosphate dextrose)
rotate gently with the syringes to mix blood with anticoagulant
use 3-way tap and T-connector and plain blood collection bag
use 19-21 G butterfly needle to collect blood from the jugular vein
give a cat isotonic crystaloid fluid tx 60ml/h for 3 hrs

be strictly aseptic, use face mask, sterile surgical gloves
RECIPIENT
INDICATIONS
tachycardia despite normovolemia
PCV 10-20%
expected blood loss due to coagulopathy
PCV 15%
elective surgical procedure
PCV < 10%
ongoing blood loss
PCV 15%
acute blood loss associated with signs of hypoperfusion
PCV < 18%
blood volume to be tranfused
= total blood volume of patient (K x weight kg, K=40-60) x [(target PCV - current PCV) : donor PCV
use transfusion giving set - with 200µm filter
speed of transfusion:
start: 0,25 ml/kg/h
if no adverse reaction in first 30-60 min: not exceed 20ml/kg/h
complete in 4-6 hrs if once withdrawn from the fridge
monitoring
: use transfusion monitoring sheet
h: every 15 mins
every hour
Acute haemolytic transfusion
reactions:
restlessness
vocalisation
tachypnoea
tachycardia
hypo/hypertension
Transfusion related pyrexia
:
increase T> 1°C during 4 h of a transfusion
check for hypocalcaemia

mucous membranes
CRT
temperature
PCV: 1-2 h after completion
total plasma protein
look for volume overload
jugular vein
thoracic auscultation
can use 2-3ml of typed blood over 5 min to looked at adverse reaction
