Reflections
I don't think the bathhouse or anything in the water had caused her baby's death. I feel like she is just in grief trying to find a reason for this happening.
-
I find it kind of strange how he just assumes that she will eventually love where something so uncomfortable for her to walk in and move around in.

"Back in Kabul, if not for the occasional burst of gunfire, if not for the soviets soldiers smoking on the sidewalks and soviet jeeps always bumping thru streets, war might as well been a rumor."Ch 21 pg 146
reflections
You would think Now that the rebels are wining Would think the country should go back to relative peace.
I noticed that laila has been acting more awkward tariq and his mother seems to want them to be with each other.
I don't see how seeing enemy jeeps, soldiers, and gunfire make the war a rumor.

Quotes
""As we were led to a truck, laila looked over her shoulder and spotted Wakil's boy at the rear of the bus. The boy saw her too and waved happily." CH 36 PG 263

"The doctor was out of her burqa now," CH 39 PG 291
Reflections
Its strange to think the Taliban are so strict that even female doctors are forced to wear burqas even during surgery.
The boy really doesn't care what happens to them, this makes me think wakil ratted them out to the militia man.
This quote shows the point where marium and laila have become allies and will no longer hate each other for penty things.

Questions

Final reflection
I thought the book was well written and had a somewhat happy ending with laila pregnant. Laila and her family's future is still uncertain at the end, as she says that Taliban forces are still out there and warlords having their power returned by the Americans.
"You'll get used to it" Rasheed said. "With time, Ill bet you'll even love it." Ch 11 Pg 72 In the end she would resent her husband.
"The doctor was out of her burqa now," CH 39 PG 291 This summarizes the whole book on how women are treated.
"I held a shard of glass to his throat and took his blanket from him. I gave it to my mother". CH 44 PG 335 This shows how through this story all the characters have done all that they can to help the ones who they care for.
