Patient must be fed a nutrient rich liquid diet as mastication is not a mechanical function he can perform. Patient must receive a diet that is very low in fat, moderate in protein with a normal amount of carbohydrates.

Diet needs to have daily recommended calories for patient's lifestyle and be in a liquid form. Diet also needs adequate carbohydrates and fiber to promote stasis.
