One thing that helped with creating a stable food supply was the plow.
The plow helped plant and harvest crops.

Pictographs were the first written language.
There was only 700 symbols.

The wheel was one of Sumers inventions.
Before the wheel transportation was hard, after the wheel it was easier to move long distances in a short period of time.

In the middle was the Merchants, Fishers, Farmers, and Artisans.
At the bottom Level was the slaves.
At the top of Sumers social structure was the Priests, the King, the Land donors, and the Government officials.

Sumerians believed that the Gods chose the kings. This made the government more powerful.
Government Officials made sure the city-state was in order by maintaining irrigation systems, patrolling canals, and collecting taxes.
One important job the government did was made sure the irrigation systems were maintained, this was important because people could die if the water wasn't clean.
