Editing Class (People to Contact (HCC (Jenny Waldo - Program Coordinator…

- - - - I've been toying with the idea of handwriting her a letter with a few negatives inside and sending them to the galleries in L.A. of which she's a part of. I don't know why. I know she cares deeply about the process of film, about analog filmmaking being a completely separate medium than digital. She understands they can coexist and I want to inspire that passion she has for film. I want her to understand that I'm doing this to keep that path viable, even if it is a shot in the dark and I'm not at all a professional.
        
        Goal: Write her a letter outlining why it is you are reaching out to her, that you want to keep film as a process alive and viable for filmmakers of all sizes. Perhaps even let her know what you're working with to see if she has any suggestions, or if there are any learning materials she could recommend that would be useful instructional material.
    - - Rumor has it that an HCC Alum is working with Nolan in the editing department. I haven't been able to confirm this through research so I have to do a little detective work. If I could get a hold of them it might prove that Film Editing is indeed a viable path since they're working with a renowned Director. And if not, well I can always take a madman's approach and see if Christopher can suggest that I format the curriculum a certain way, recommend instructional material, or maybe even make an appearance in favor of the program. (LOL)

  - - - As the Filmmaking program coordinator I need to figure out what plans she has for the Film/TV editing class. Sandifer has told me she intends to offer the class as a workshop, but as an extension of HCC or a non-profit arm is unknown.
      - Goal: Convince her that the class can be kept in the program as well as offered for workshopping purposes. The money from workshop classes can help support other endeavors within the program, as well as attract more students and investors.
    - - As Dean of the entire FIlmmaking department I need to understand what his prerogatives are. Does he want to save money? Does he need more students enrolled in the program? What are his goals and how can I appeal to them?
      - Goal: Set up a meeting with him and other department chairs to convince them that Film is a VIABLE process in todays digital world.
    - - Harrington is the last professor on campus who still knows how to work with emulsion film and the corresponding equipment. As this is his last semester, I have to soak up as much knowledge from him as possible in order to be deemed valuable as an instructor.
      - Goal: convince him to be an advocate for my move as an instructor for the editing class and workshops, vocally and in a meeting. Also, I want him to teach me how to use any and all equipment in house, as well as create an inventory of resources such as labs we've traditionally used for processing and developing film, purveyors from whom we purchase our film, technicians we've used for equipment, etc. etc.
    - - I'm not exactly sure where he fits in the decision making process for the class. Do things need to be approved by him? Find out what he wants to happen as far as budgets, programming, and workshopping is concerned.
      - Goal: Set up a meeting with him and other department chairs to convince them that Film is a VIABLE process in todays digital world.
