- - - - The prophylactic administration of Cefazolin-AFT preoperatively, intraoperatively, and postoperatively may reduce the
        incidence of certain post-operative infections
        in patients undergoing surgical procedures that are classified as contaminated or potentially contaminated
        (e.g vaginal hysterectomy, or cholecystectomy in high-risk patients, such as those over 70 years of age who have acute cholecystitis, obstructive jaundice, or common bile-duct stones).
      - The perioperative use of Cefazolin-AFT may also be effective
        in surgical patients in whom infection at the operative site would
        present a serious risk (e.g. during open- heart surgery
        and prosthetic arthroplasty).
      - The prophylactic administration of Cefazolin-AFT should usually be discontinued within a 24 hour period after the surgical procedure. For surgery in which the occurrence of infection may be particularly devastating(e.g. open-heart surgery and prosthetic arthroplasty), the prophylactic administration of Cefazolin-AFT may be continued for 3 to 5 days following the completion of surgery. If there are signs of infection, specimens for cultures should be obtained for the identification of the causative organism so that appropriate therapy may be instituted.
      - Powder for injection-1g,2g,10g,100g and 300g.
        For surgical infection 1-2 g IV
      - Condtraindications: Documented hypersensitivity.
      - First generation semisynthetic cephalosporin that binds to 1 or more penicillin-binding proteins, thereby arresting bacterial cell-wall synthesis and inhibiting bacterial replication; has poor captivity to cross blood-brain barrier; primarily active against skin flora including S aureus.
        Absorption: peak plasma time. 0.5-2hr IM; 5 min IV.
        Distribution: 74-86%
        Metabolism minimally metabolised in liver
        Elimination: Half life:90-150
        Excretion: urine (80-100% as unchanged drug
  - - - Do not use with any other paracetamol- containing products. The concomitant use with other products containing paracetamol may lead to an overdose. Paracetamol overdose may cause liver failure which may require liver transplant or lead to death. Paracetamol should be used with caution in patients with:• Impaired liver function: Underlying liver disease increases the risk of paracetamol-related liver damage • Impaired kidney function: Administration of paracetamol to patients with moderate to severe renal impairment may result in accumulation of paracetamol conjugates
      - Absorption: is rapidly and all mostly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract. Food intake delays paracetamol absorption. Distribution: is distributed into the body tissues. Binding to the plasma proteins is minimal at therapeutic concentrations but increases with increasing doses. Metabolism; in the liver. Excretion in urine. Half-life 1.25-3hr adolescents 2-3 hrs for adults
  - - - Mechanism of Action: inhibits cyclooxyrgenase, does not affect COX-1 thereby decreasing formation of prostaglandin synthesis.
        Absorption: Peak plasma time, less than 3 hours.
        Distribution: protein bound, 97%
        Metabolism: Metabolised in liver by CYP2C9
        Elimination: Half life , Mild hepatic impairment, 11Hr; chronic renal insufficiency or moderate hepatic impairment, 13hrs.
        Excretion Feces 57% and urine 27%
      - Warnings: Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs can increase risk of serious cardiovascular thrombotic evens, myocardial infarction and stroke. Can increase risk of serious gastrointestinal adverse events, which includes bleeding, ulceration and gastric or intestinal perforation.
      - Adverse effects: headache 10-16%, Hypertension 13%, Fever (% Dyspepsia 8.8%.
      - Capule 50mg, 100mg, 200mg and 400mg and can also be given IV. Given every 12 hours and if Hepatic impairment decrees dose by 50% for moderate.
      - Celecoxib Pfizer is used to treat joint pain, tenderness, swelling and stiffness in Osteoarthritis, rheumatoid and belongs to a group of medicines called coxs which are used to relieved pain and inflammation in a number of conditions and following surgery as it is used to relieve short term pain. It can also be used to treat menstrual cramps. In this case it was given during the operation to reduce inflammation following surgery
